Pace notes

Sir,

I was delighted to read DSJ’s letter (in February’s MOTOR SPORT) on his pace notes for the 1955 Mille Miglia. By a strange coincidence I had been in my loft earlier this week attempting to sort out boxes of memorabilia from my misspent (?) youth when I came across the June 1955 MOTOR SPORT with a very grimy Jenks and Moss on the cover. The loft “job” was immediately forgotten as I became immersed in Jenks’ marvellous seven page description of that epic race, including such items as the 200-foot “flight” when they underestimated the severity of a bump at 170mph and Jenks losing his breakfast and glasses at Desaro. Wonderful stuff, they don’t make ’em like that these days . .
