The motor sport’s association (the governing body of motor sport in Great Britain) has recognised the huge popularity of historic rallying by sanctioning the inauguration of a British Championship this season, a just reward for the Historic Rally Car Register which has nurtured the discipline from its infancy.
An evolution of the HRCR’s series, the eight round competition features an equal mix of tarmac and gravel events and will be sponsored by Minilite Wheels. Seven domestic events with a good geographical spread, plus the Ypres Rally in Belgium, comprise the calendar.
The series, which opens with March 6’s Robin Hood Stages, is open to Historic (pre-68) and Post-Historic (pre-75) cars, with several capacity classes. Points will not be awarded for overall finishing positions so that all crews start equal. Details from co-ordinator Bill Pardoe on 01562 827903. MP
