Widely known as a TV commentator, Barrie, who died in January at the age of 69, was also an innovator in the development of sponsorship in the world of motorsport.
As a television presenter he entertained millions of viewers, covering diverse branches of the sport from Formula One to rallying over several decades, but Gill also created the CSS marketing agency. Its early clients included James Hunt, and over more than 20 years the company grew into a market leader, both in terms of TV and printed media work.
Gill was also an author of many motorsport books, and had developed a strong reputation as a guest speaker at sponsorship and marketing forums. PL
