JYS to stand down as BRDC president

Three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart has announced that he will not be seeking re-election as President of the British Racing Drivers’ Club when his current reign runs out during the spring.

Stewart has been a particularly high-profile head of the club, primarily during numerous run-ins with F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, and then due to a failed coup by former chairman Ray Bellm, who tried to oust him from the board.

“During my time as president we have fought many battles, not least almost annually the one to retain the British Grand Prix,” said Stewart. “I will continue to give the BRDC my support and goodwill.”
