Beating the Odds

Beating the Odds, by Christopher Hilton. Haynes, £9.99.

Study and anticipation of the F1 season is enriched by knowing about the competing drivers, and these days it seems that most of them get full-book coverage, however recent to the racing, in death or in team changes. Journalist Christopher Hilton is foremost in this activity and he has added a 176-page work on Jean Alesi’s career from his karting days to his move from Ferrari to Benetton. He has driven with dash in over 100 GPs but his only win was in last year’s Canadian GP. But his F3000 championship for Jordan and information about how stormy his Ferrari years were presumably justify this book. W B
