Peter Hanson

Peter Hanson, who lost his battle with cancer in March, was best known as a leading sportscar racer through the early 1970s. The Yorkshireman, born in 1945, was more recently the partner of Jean Ireland, widow of the late Innes Ireland.

Hanson started racing in single-seaters and raced with Chevron in F3 in the late 1960s. Into the 1970s he moved into Group 6 sportscars and enjoyed more success with the Bolton marque when the category was booming all across Europe. He later raced in the British Touring Car Championship before retiring from competition, and most recently worked for Safety Devices, the Motorsport safely equipment manufacturer.
