The picture

I think the picture on page 86 of the February 2002 Motor Sport is something of a scoop, as surely it depicts Whitney Straight’s fiancée, Miss Peggy Altham, the dancer? I have a photograph of the smartly dressed lady standing beside the Duesenberg when Straight was about to try it out at Brooklands, and another of Straight with her as she prepares to race his MG Magnette. She was timed over three consecutive laps at 65.61mph in the 1933 Autumn Women’s Mountain Handicap, finishing third, behind Rita Don’s Riley and Kay Petre’s Bugatti, whose respective best lap speeds were 62.68 and 64.41mph.
