Indycar hero Al Unser Jnr will make a shock return to the cockpit in the Indianapolis 500 where he will come up against old rival Michael Andretti.
Unser, 44, who quit driving in mid-2004. will drive a Dallara-Honda for the small Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team.
“I missed the speed, the competition, the smell, the sound, the fans… I mean, I missed everything about it,” said Unser.
Yet another Indycar veteran, Eddie Cheever, returned to IRL competition in the first round at Homestead, where the 48-year-old finished a respectable 10th.
