A sportsman

I was delighted with the item on Clay Regazzoni. Older readers may recall our Dulon-Porsche twice tangling with the leading Ferrari 312P in 1971 — with Ickx at the Brands Hatch BOAC 1000Km, then soon after at the Spa 1000Km, this latter being a monumental coming-together when then owner Martin Ridehalgh in the Dulon collided with `Regga’ in the 312P at high speed. In 1997 at the Coy’s Silverstone meeting I managed to get Martin and the Dulon, Clay and Englebert Steiger’s fabulous 312P together again for the first time since the ’71 crash. This involved plucking Clay from his lunch table in the BRDC suite (a story in itself).

Clay was a gentleman, happily posing for the pictures and making it a great occasion, especially as he was the innocent party in the original incident. A real sportsman!
