Hallford stores up Touring points

Pete Hallford, David Howard and French raider GĂ©rard Faber were all winners during the opening rounds of the Classic Touring Car Racing Club race series at Silverstone in late March.

Hallford's Group One series victory was the result of a beautifully executed drive that carried him from fifth to first in the space of five laps. Once ahead, the Chevrolet Camaro man eased clear of the Jaguars of Brian Stevens and David Howard, while Roger Stanford claimed a class victory in his BMW 2002 against opposition which included the identical car of his son Jack.

Hopes of Hallford repeating his victory in the Post-Historic race were dashed when the car expired while running second. Its demise left the Jaguar XJ12 of Howard with a clear advantage. Howard was then able to relax his pace, clear of the battling Dave Nixon (Mazda RX-3) and Stephen Primett (Escort RS2000).

Frenchman Faber had never seen the circuit prior to qualifying but romped to victory in both legs of the Classic Thunder double-header. His 6.6-litre Chevrolet Camaro easily had the legs of Nigel Garrett (Rover SD1) and veteran Dave Brodie (Ford Sapphire Cosworth).
