Speaking to Steve Soper

Long-time saloon ace on the lure of racing historic machinery

I remember seeing Jim Clark in his Lotus Cortina at Brands Hatch when I was there spectating with my father in the early ’60s, and it’s lovely to have the opportunity to use one now. People keep asking me to race things I drove professionally in period, but it wouldn’t feel the same without all the trappings we had back then. I’m more interested in driving things I didn’t have the opportunity to race first time around – and, being eligible for so many different series, Cortinas are perfect.
