Records meeting

On October 15/16th the National Sprint Association organised a two-day meeting on Elvington Aerodrome, near York, and motorcycle and car competitors attacked World, International and National records over the 1/4-mile, 500 metres, the kilometre and the mile. More than forty records were broken or established; the motorcycle ones will no doubt be dealt with by our sister journal Motorcycle Sport. Outstanding among the cars was the supercharged 1,500-c.c. Ford-based dragster built and driven by Leslie Turner, his performance on the 500 metres (standing start) beating the World record recently set by the new works B.M.W.-engined car. On the mile he broke Mickey Thompson’s Class F record.
