Miles Ahead

STAGED at the Design Centre in the Haymarket, SW1, the exhibition Miles Ahead is well worth a visit by those in London with some time to spare between appointments. The theme is British car design and this small, but well laid out, exhibition has clear, descriptive panels outlining the numerous criteria the designer has to consider in all aspects of car design. The new Metro features strongly, with a complete car on display in the window, a cut-away version showing much of the construction detail on a plinth inside, and the actual crash test vehicle, complete with dummy, with its crumped nose but unaffected interior for all to see. Ford’s new Escort is also featured and the new CVH engine for this car, in cut-away form, was the exhibit which fascinated me most.

Entry is free, and the exhibition (which opened in October) runs until 15th November.
