Road Tyres Win Cyprus Rally

THE BF Goodrich Tire Group of Akron, Ohio, not to be confused with Goodyear, is very chuffed, according to a hand-out, that the Audi Quattro with which John Buffum won the Cyprus Rally was shod with Goodrich standard road tyres, the only competitor in the event to do so, they say. He used, in fact, normal Goodrich all terrain and mud terrain PA radials and over 400 tough miles avoided the tyre failures that befell other major contenders. Goodrich say they use rallies for research and development of their tyres and it will be interesting to see how the Buffum Audi Quattro fares in the RAC Rally later this month. — W.B.
