THE ASTON MAKI1N PROJECT 212 will be out of action for many months following a severe accident during the Goodwood Revival Meeting.

During qualifying fbr the Tourist linphy race Gary Pearson hit the bank at Madgwick substantially damaging its front and rear. Pearson was unhurt. in the first session co-driver Martin Brunclle qualified in pole position. project 212 was one of three Astons produced in the early ’60s in a vain

attempt to beat Ferrari in GT racing. The 212 led at Le Mans in 1962 with Graham Hill and Richie Ginthcr, before retiring. It was then sold to John Dawney, now Viscount Downe, and raced successfully by Mike Salmon. Originally all the Project cars were due to start the TT but with the withdrawal of 212 and 215 still being fixed after an accident at Silverstone last year only Simon Draper’s 214 took flag. The crash was the first in 212’s history. AF
