McLaren-bound Keke Rosberg closes his Williams account with victory in the Australian GP.  Ligier’s Jacques Laffite is second ahead of Phillippe Streiff.

Timo Mäkinen, ably assisted by Henry Liddon on pace notes, completes a hat-trick of wins on the RAC Rally aboard his Ford Escort RS1800.  He finishes ahead of British hero Roger Clark.

Juan Manuel Fangio wins the Grand Prix of Venezuala over 85 laps of the 4km Caracas circuit.  The Argentinian ace finishes over two laps ahead of ‘Fon” de Portago in his Maserati.
