Indy ace and designer in E-type shunts

Two major accidents for lightweight Jaguar E-types marred the first day of the Goodwood Revival meeting this year. Both Adrian Newey and Dario Franchitti escaped major injury, although both were knocked unconscious in unrelated accidents during qualifying for the RAC TT Celebration race. Newey, who had heavily damaged his Ford GT40 at Le Mans in July, crashed just after Lavant Corner, and almost as soon as the qualifying session was re-started, Franchitti crashed heavily at Fordwater. Both drivers were taken to hospital for observation, but released the following day. Newey had been due to share his car with Bobby Rahal, while Franchitti was partnered by Jackie Oliver.
