Preparation firm has a deal to tempt historic rally drivers

The Porsche VW and Audi specialist Francis Thuthill Ltd has announced a new concept for historic rallying.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the London Rally School at Pool Farm in Oxfordshire, where Richard Tuthill explained how the company is building 10 identical 3-litre Porsche 911s which will be available for various rounds of the 2011 British Historic Rally Championship.

Tuthill will provide everything, so that all customers have to do is get to the start of the rallies. In order to take part in the concept, and five rounds of the BHRC, you’ll have to part with a hefty £42,250. However, this does include the cost of the car, insurance, entry fees, tyres, fuel, maintenance, management, road books, accommodation and the all-important Tuthill clothing – so maybe it’s not a ridiculous figure. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find better value for money.

“The cars are classic Category 3 cars,” says Richard. “They’re reliable, easy to drive and, above all, they’re quick. After driving one today, I think I could still win a British championship round in it.”

Add to all this a fully-paid entry into an FIA European Historic Rally Championship round for the winner of the ‘Tuthill championship’, and it starts to look quite inviting for anyone with money to spend on a season of worry-free rallying.
