What we’d blow the budget on this month

Ecurie Bertelli
Aston Martin 1½-litre Le Mans
The factory prototype four-seater, works demonstrator and Gordon Sutherland’s own car. Road-tested by The Motor in 1934, too, so tons of history as well as family performance

£140,000, www.ecuriebertelli.com

Art and Revs
Delage D8S
One of the great names in grand touring. An eight-cylinder engine, with 120bhp in S spec, clothed in a good-looking and restrained body by Chapron, one of the finest French houses

€750,000, www.artandrevs.com

Cheshire Classic Cars
Ford Escort RS 1600
Originally a works demonstrator, rebuilt as a successful race car, and now back in Gp2 Tarmac rally spec with BDA, ZF box and LSD. Second on 2012 Tour Britannia, so it’s quick…

Bravely ignoring his degree in industrial design after discovering night rallies in a Renault 8, GC joined Motor Sport by accident, in the Teesdale days around 1982 when Jenks and WB were office regulars and Mr Tee ruled with a rod of cardboard. He took part in some of the early historic rallies, winning one of the Pirelli Marathons, and regularly runs his Mk2 Jaguar in road events.
