Two Indy races in May?

An Indycar race on the Indianapolis road course in May is among proposals for a second fixture at the Speedway next year.

IndyCar tested the latest Dallara one-make racer on the 2.61-mile track in early September. A number of dates have been considered for the race. IndyCar boss Mark Miles, who favours early May, said: “We want to develop IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

Graham Rahal and Ryan Briscoe tested their respective Rahal Letterman Lanigan and Panther Racing Dallaras on the Speedway road course, in both clockwise and anti-clockwise form, as used by F1/Grand-Am and MotoGP respectively. The road course could get an overhaul as part of a forthcoming US$100 million investment in the IMS.

As we closed for press, we learned that 2000 Indy 500 winner, 1999 CART champion and former Williams! McLaren F1 racer Juan Pablo Montoya will return to IndyCar next season, with Penske Racing. The Colombian has been competing in NASCAR for the past six and a half seasons.
