Detail improvements for 1989 include the larger fuel tank, lighter steering with adjustable column, larger radiathr, and stabiliser for the front

suspension, etc. A.C. has always made a feature of good Coachwork and continues an extensive range, into which bas been introduced a new 4;5-seater saloon and a new five-seater drophead coupe. The new saloon costs f.,498 and an Arnott-supercharged competition two-seater is a standard model at L496.

Moreover, Cotal

electric gearboxes are used. These smaller models are available with and without the blower installation and, in addition, there is a large car with Lincoln V12 engine and three-speed gearbox.

The engine is of straightforward design, with pushrod o.h.v., yet it produces a maximum speed of over 90 m.p.h. from closed versions of the car, while working at all times in complete silence and remark able smoothness. The normal halfelliptic suspension system, by reason of automatic damping and additional override controls, provides both stability and comfortable riding at all speeds and load ings. The four-speed right-hand controlled synchromesh gearbox has one of the most pleasant gear-changes it has ever been our good fortune to handle. Like old wine partaken of last night, the modern Bentley represents speed and power unleashed as we moderns like these qualities unleashed, so that not only Rolls-Royce Ltd., but every British subject, can justifiably be proud of the

The modern Type 57S I3ugatti, with either blown or unblown. 3.3-litre twin o.h. camshaft straight-eight engine, is one of the most remarkable high-performance cars in production. It is docile in traffic and silent throughout the speed range, yet is capable of speeds of around 120 m.p.h. in unblown form. Moreover, its normal system of suspension, de Ram damped, provides a degree of comfort and controllability unrivalled by any independently sprung chassis. The engine revs. to 5,500 r.p.m., gives about 180 b.h.p. and the chassis weight is just over 21 cwt.
