Sydney Allard’s Steyr-Allard makes F.T. D.

Sydney Allard’s Steyr-Allard, in practically the form in which it was described in the August Motor Sport, but with its rear coil springs now outside the body, made f.t.d. at Bo’ness on September 20th, in 41.7 sec. Runner-up was Chassels’ Riley-engined Frazer-Nash Special, which clocked 42.0 sec. Fastest sports-car time was a tie between Tyrer’s special 328 B.M.W. and Weir’s B.M.W., in 44.6 sec. Many ingenious “specials” ran. Clarkson’s Iota won the 750-c.c. racing-car class in 44.3 sec., Lund’s Lund Spikins Singer Special the 751-1,100-c.c. racing-car class in 43.3 sec. and Chassels the 1,101-1,500-c.c. racing-car category. Buck’s 35B Bugatti won the 2-3-litre racing-car class in 43.9 sec. and second to the Steyr-Allard in the big class was Thorne’s V8 Alexander-Special, which was 2.5 sec. slower than Allard, but considerably faster than Hendry’s V8 Speedy Special. The winners of the sports-car classes were Hendry’s Balilla Fiat (51.4 sec.), Lund’s M.G. (48.9 sec.), Gill’s Riley (45.6 sec.), Tyrer’s and Weir’s B.M.W.s (tie in 44.6 sec.), McGlashan’s Jaguar (49.0 sec.), and Watson’s Watson-Special (45.1 sec.). Hetherington’s Allard was 3rd in the big, unblown sports-car class, in 48.1 sec. The Bo’ness Council fully approved the event.
