New All British Glass Sunroof

IN FEBRUARY last year, we featured an article on the fitting of a “Sport Twin-Top” two-piece glass sunroof to the Editorial Rover. Now Skyport have a single-piece, removable glass sunroof which they call the “Panarama”. At Skyport’s request, we took a staff Alfa Romeo GTV to their Abingdon HQ to have one of the new roofs fitted. The methods employed are just as described for the “Twin Top”, but the interior finishing is rather neater and the whole job is carried out in a remarkably short time.

Apart from the fact that the new roof is a single panel, the big improvement comes from the ease with which it may either be tilted slightly open, or removed completely, both operations being controlled by a single, sensibly sized toggle hand-grip which is very easy to use. As the panel is flush fitting, there is no wind noise when it is closed and very little when tilted open. The noise level with the panel completely removed will depend on the aerodynamics of the car.

Three sizes are available, with either a black or a lustre finish for the frame. A wind deflector and a storage bag for the glass are optional extras. Prices start at £135 plus VAT for the small size as fitted to the Alfa Romeo, and there is a 12 month parts and labour guarantee. — A.B.
