Cotton tales of Mercedes

The owner of a 36/220 Mercedes-Benz, the famous golfer Henry Cotton, who once drove 340 miles in a day which included 36 holes of golf, took a £10 bet with another golfer. He wagered that Richard Costain could not get from Evreau to Dieppe in his 3.5-litre Bentley in under 13 hours, as Cotton, solo, had taken only 11 hours in his Mercedes. The Bentley did it 12hrs 45min, with three sharing the driving, but it had an extra 55 miles to do. Thank you to the golfer who owns an RM Riley for this information.
