A British IndyCar champ?

With three rounds to go in the IRL IndyCar Series, 27-year-old Dan Wheldon stands on the brink of becoming Britain’s first Indy-style champion since Nigel Mansell won the Champ Car title in 1993. Wheldon, already the winner of the Indy 500 this year, is comfortably ahead of his closest pursuer, Andretti Green Racing team-mate Tony Kanaan, in the points. Even if Kanaan wins all three of the remaining races (and he’s only won twice this year so far),  Wheldon’s required average score per round is equivalent to a sixth-place finish. Next up is the classic Watkins Glen road course.
