Bonhams

2007 Koenigsegg CCGT

Sold by Bonhams, £3.3m

The cost-of-living crisis clearly hadn’t affected the buyer of this unique Koenigsegg. It was developed between 2003-07 with the aim of taking the Swedish brand to Le Mans – then the homologation rules changed, and that was that. The car was sold to Bård Eker, the offshore powerboat champion and marine engineering tycoon, who was then Koenigsegg’s major shareholder. It had been kept, according to Bonhams, in temperature-controlled, dry and dark conditions and given twice-yearly engine maintenance runs. Sold in practically new condition, it was even fitted with its original slicks.

2021 Dodge Charger Hellcat

Sold by Collecting Cars, £84,500

Who said four-door saloons are boring? This Dodge Charger Hellcat ‘Redeye’ makes 500bhp from its supercharged, 6.2-litre V8 – unless the ‘red’ key is used, in which case an extra 297 horses arrive.

1996 Chevrolet Batmobile

Sold by Mecum, £151,200

This ludicrous machine is enough to cause anyone to exclaim “holy bunions!” (as Robin once did). The Batmobile replica, based on the 1989 film version, featured a one-piece glass-fibre body.

1970 Aston Martin DBS V8

Sold by Bonhams, The Market, £31,000

This was either the Aston bargain of the decade or the start of the new owner’s restoration hell. But we loved the brutish, non-standard and shamelessly shabby look of the manual V8. Worth a gamble.

2009 Jaguar X-Type

Sold by Historics, £22,400

More than £20,000 for a largely unloved X-Type might seem strong – but this one did belong to our late Queen Elizabeth. When it last appeared at auction, it raised £300,000 for Comic Relief.

1968 Lambretta SX200

Sold by H&H, £32,200

This Lambretta once belonged to The Jam frontman Paul Weller. He donated it to a charity auction in 2002, after which it was sold for increasingly large sums at three further sales.

1984 MG Metro Turbo

Sold by Historics, £22,400

Not so long ago £20k for a Metro Turbo would have seemed absurd. Bought new for £5500, this one’s owner kept it for 30 years, during which he drove it just 6500 miles. It now shows just 1000 more…

1962/70s Jaguar C-Type replica

Sold by Bonhams, £44,166

When Ecurie Ecosse enthusiast William Guthrie wanted a replica C-type 50-odd years ago, he had to build his own. Subsequently restored and improved by Jaguar doyens Guy Broad and Chris Window of WinSpeed, the car won the Classic Speed Championship outright in 2014.
