About Britain’s Premier Race Circuit:—

“It is now very obvious that the positioning of the pits for the Silverstone Grand Prix is hazardous—Autosport, July 26th.

***

“The B.R.D.C., efficient and vastly experienced in race organization, and as aware as anyone else of the potential danger, have obviously weighed up the situation and decided to leave the pits where they are”—Autosport, July 26th.

***

“As we close for press it is learned that the R.A.C. have advised the Silverstone Circuit Controllers that, until further notice, the pits must not be used.”—Autosport, August 2nd.

***

“…the Six-Hour Relay will have to move camp somewhere else on the circuit, unless, perhaps, a barrier can be erected in time.”—Autocar, August 9th.

***

“The (750) Club have come to an arrangement with the R.A.C. to use the pits, so essential in this type of race (Six-Hour Relay), provided several safety precautions are taken.”—Autosport, August 9th.

(Who was correct ?—see page 724.)

***

About Sir Alfred Owen:—“There is not yet evidence of a great one on a par with his father, Ernest Owen, who founded the Works, a genius who began with a handful of men and when he died… had built an engineering group valued at over £1,000,000. Alfred Owen has a long way to go before he can touch the hem of such a man. I have heard it said that when faced with a crisis, he retires for half-an-hour for prayer. If that is so, then at times he seems singularly ill-advised.” Louis T. Stanley in Grand Prix.

***

About Bluebird:—“…we would also ask whether the expenditure of £500,000 to improve a record which this country aheady holds was necessary at all.”—Autocar, August 9th.
