A rare Crossley

Sir,

We were most interested to read the letter of Mr. De Lacroix concerning the Crossley owned by a relation in 1923, and examine the photograph published.

Regarding his query as to the Model, there is little doubt the landaulette body is based upon the 19.6 h.p. chassis current from 1920 1926, though judging by our records of remaining vehicles, the majority were produced in the 1923/24 period. Only one complete and running example of this body style is known to us (Registration MB 3838), which is a 1923 car and interestingly it is just possible this could be the identical vehicle referred to by Mr. De Lacroix, as this vehicle has a period bulb horn and rear view mirror affixed on the offside screen pillar, and certainly the mirror can just be discerned in your photograph. In every other respect also it appears identical.

Possibly the current owner will be corresponding with you also. MB 3838 appeared at our Crossley Register “Summer Lunch” held in June 1974, and was greatly admired at that time.
