Moss Vanwall breaks 1998 auction sale record

Vanwall VW10, in which Stirling Moss won the Dutch and Portuguese Grands Prix in 1958, was sold for £800,817 including premium by Brooks at the Nürburgring’s Oldtimer Grand Prix earlier this month -the highest price paid for a car at auction this year. The first Alfa Romeo 172 Berlinetta to be offered at auction, made an extraordinary £572,457 at the same sale.

Star of the Coys Silverstone auction, a fortnight before, was a stunning Ferrari 250 Spyder California, which sold for £370,538. Bargain of the event was the ex-Alan Jones/ Vittorio Brambilla/Divina Galica Surtees TS19-04, which sold for £39,199, complete with a rebuilt DFV engine! MP
