A hard battle for the lead of the Historic Racing Saloon race was the main attraction at this HSCC meeting in early August.

Simon Garrad’s BMW 2000 had the pace to win, but his gearlever broke off on lap four, forcing a retirement. Graeme Dodd’s Jaguar Mkll then took the lead, and had to withstand feisty attacks from the Lotus Cortina of Chris Sanders. At the flag, Dodd got the nod by just 0.75sec.

Nick Adams claimed the Historic Road Sports glory, but the rare Holden-powered Milano of Mike Eagles was closing in at the flag as the track dried following a shower.

Similar conditions hit the 70s Road Sports, playing into the hands of Keith Ahlers and his Morgan Plus 8, and Paul Smith’s FF Jamun in the Classic Racing Cars. Alan Baillie’s Merlyn was best of the rest in the latter event.

Stuart Tizzard scooped his first overall win in Classic Sports with his Marcos GT, while Mark Woodhouse dominated the Formula Juniors in his Lotus 20/22.
