Clarence Cagle

The man who helped save the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from oblivion in 1946 has died at the age of 88.

After serving in the US Army, Cagle was hired to manage the Speedway immediately after Tony Hulman purchased the dilapidated venue. He spent the next 50 years either as the track superintendent or as a consultant for Hulman’s grandson, Tony George.
