Gold Cup plans

Connaught race to headline at Oulton

A special Connaught race will be a feature event at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting on August 27/28, as a celebration of Tony Brooks’ victory at Syracuse in 1955. His victory for Connaught in the non-championship Syracuse Grand Prix in Sicily was the first post-war international win for a British grand prix car.

Brooks himself will attend the event and drive demonstration laps, having not been to the Cheshire track since the late 1950s. He will fly in from his home in Spain for the occasion.

The organisers hope to attract former Connaught employees and drivers to the event, which this year for the first time adds a rally stage to its wide range of post-war historic sportscar and single-seater action.
