A trip up the hill with another racing Hill

Enjoyed an hour or so with Jake Hill (no relation to Damon) at Goodwood. Jake is an 18-year-old whose success racing Ginettas has resulted in him being named a BRDC rising star. As it turns out I drove him up the hill because he’d never seen it before and wanted to know which way it went before tackling it himself. So while I can’t tell you what his driving is like, I can say he is self-effacing, confident without being cocky, interesting and interested. When you ask most racers of his age what they want to do, they respond that their ambition is to be Formula 1 World Champion.

Jake appears to have a more sensible head. He wants a career as a professional racing driver and to compete at Le Mans. If he drives as well as he presents himself, that should be eminently achievable.
