Birthday celebrations begin at Goodwood

As the official timekeeper for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it was fitting that TAG Heuer chose the event as the perfect place to mark Jack Heuer’s 80th birthday by launching a limited edition of the Carrera chronograph he first introduced in 1963.

The special watch features a silver-coloured ‘sunray’ dial and vintage Heuer logo, and the back carries the Jack Heuer signature and his family coat of arms.

TAG Heuer also launched its new Limited Edition Speed collection at the Festival (below), incorporating three Carrera models designed exclusively for the UK and featuring a special Speed logo at the nine o’clock position.

“I’m very proud to launch my 80th birthday celebrations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed,” said Jack. “There are few more iconic fixtures on the motoring calendar and it provides the perfect backdrop for our new, impressive range of timepieces.”

Jack was joined at Goodwood by one of the company’s greatest ambassadors, four-time World Champion Alain Prost, who was making his first visit to the Festival of Speed. Prost assisted Goodwood’s Lord March in curating TAG Heuer’s inaugural Festival of Speed photographic exhibition, which tracked every milestone of Alain’s path from schoolboy kart racer to F1’s second most proliic F1 winner.

A collection of 100 superb images – many of which have never been seen before in public – were on show. Prost’s appearance on Friday and Saturday, plus the exhibition of images, provided one of the great highlights of the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
