EcoBoost tech award

Ford’s three-cylinder, 1-litre turbo EcoBoost engine has been awarded the coveted Dewar Trophy in a ceremony at the RAC.

The award is given for outstanding British technical achievement in the motor industry and was inaugurated in 1904 by Tommy Dewar of whisky fame.

The engine is a milestone in efficiency, offering similar or better power and torque than a conventional 1.6-litre four with 25 per cent better fuel consumption. Small enough for its footprint to sit on a sheet of A4 paper, it is also uncannily refined. A 202bhp version has been introduced in Formula Ford.
