THE CARS OF MAURICE FALKNER

Sir,
The articles by well-known motorists in the “Cars I Have Owned” series are most entertaining, but I was particularly interested in a paragraph in the ‘Cars of Maurice Falkner ” where Mr. Falkner refers to a Fiat 500 body which he “gummed” onto a Fiat 1100 chassis.

I was the second of the two solicitors who acquired this hybrid; sometimes referred to by an even more appropriate word associated in legal circles with an affiliation order.

The car (without blower) was driven mostly by my elder daughter who had passed her driving test in my sedate Alvis 14 saloon. To her credit, the change in technique caused no disaster.

All my family had exciting moments in “Fanny,” my own is a clear recollection of the day when the propeller, shaft dropped off.

“Fanny” was eventually sold to a young man who had his fun with her for a time but now I fear it is case of “sic transit gloria Fanny.”

You may like to perpetuate her memory by publishing the enclosed photograph.
