The Macau Grand Prix is the highlight of the Formula 3 calendar, and usually draws some of the best young single-seater drivers back onto its city streets. This year is no exception: Felix Rosenqvist, recent visitor to the Formula E podium, returns for an unprecendented hat-trick attempt, with António Félix da Costa, 2012 Macau GP winner and Formula E and DTM victor, leading the opposition. Such is Macau’s pull, Spa 24 Hour winner Alex Sims returns to the cockpit of an F3 car, so too does DTM race Daniel Juncadella.
They’ll face competition from the current crop of F3 front-runners, including Japanese champion Kenta Yamashita and runner-up Jann Mardenborough. There’s no Lance Stroll, newly appointed Williams driver and European F3 title winner, but Maximilian Günther, George Russell and the like will be in the field.
Also on the bill is the FIA GT World Cup Macau, which features Laurens Vanthoor, Earl Bamber and Nicky Catsburg among a stellar cast. Ian Hutchinson, John McGuinness and 2015 winner Peter Hickman will be in action in the motorcycle Grand Prix, and there’s plenty of tin-top racving to be enjoyed all weekend, too.
