Aston Martin has revealed its 2021 Formula 1 car ahead of the new season.
Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll were joined by a host of celebrities including Tom Brady, Gemma Arterton, Santan Dave, and Daniel Craig for the launch of the AMR21, Aston Martin’s first Formula 1 car since 1960.
The team says its 2021 car is more of an “evolution” from last year’s Mercedes lookalike and though the pink of BWT remains, the return of an emotive dark green livery to the F1 grid will certainly make it stand out.
The team was honest in its assessments for the new season, admitting that it will take around five years for it to challenge for the championship.
“Our goal for 2021 is to build on what we achieved last year and take a further step forward,” team principal Otmar Szafnauer said.
“There is no reason why we cannot achieve that with our talented workforce combined with the new financial investment. Success does not come overnight, but I am convinced that we are putting the key elements in place to continue moving up the grid this year and in the years ahead.”
Sebastian Vettel joins after his torrid final season with Ferrari as the former Racing Point team aims to continue its progress to the front of the grid. Technical personnel have stuck with the team in its transformation into Aston Martin as well, giving it a healthy platform to build on a successful 2020 season.
“This is just the beginning,” Aston Martin executive chairman Lawrence Stroll said. “The team is pushing forward, and our ambitions are limitless. We now have the pieces in place, the people and the partners, to make real progress.
“Aston Martin returning to Formula One after an absence of 61 years will have a powerful effect on the sport, the media and the fans, commanding global attention.
“The team who designed and built our new car – the 500 men and women who conceive, manufacture, build and prepare our cars so that we can go racing – has always punched above its weight. Now it has the power with which to punch even harder.”
