Oscar Piastri will be on pole for the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, heading the F1 starting grid after a qualifying session delayed by two heavy crashes, and where both Ferraris were eliminated in Q2.

Once again, Piastri looked to have the edge over his team-mate Lando Norris, who is set to start fourth, behind second-placed Max Verstappen and George Russell who left it late to charge to third.
A resurgent Aston Martin — with an upgraded car — looks to have shaken up the performance order behind McLaren, with Fernando Alonso starting fifth, just one-thousandth of a second faster than Carlos Sainz, who headed the Williams in sixth and seventh-place grid positions for the second race running. Lance Stroll starts eighth, ahead of Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly.
The final shoot-out was a long time in coming after two Q1 crashes that each brought out the red flags and required delays to repair barriers.
Yuki Tsunoda was the first to crash, six minutes into the session, when he took to much kerb at the Villeneuve chicane, which sent his Red Bull spinning into the barriers and flipping; sliding along the tyre wall upside down before coming to a rest the right way up.
The driver walked away as the lengthy recovery and repair work began. In the pits, Franco Colapinto misunderstood his team and drove into the pitlane too early, which is likely to incur him a grid penalty.
Not that he’ll lose too much though, as the Alpine driver, in his first race for the team, was the next to crash at the very end of Q1 getting on the grass at the exit to Tamburello and pirouetting into the barrier.
This time the red flags marked the very end of the session, and while Colapinto had scraped into Q2, others weren’t so lucky. Oliver Bearman had set a lap time easily good enough to move to the next stage, but it came just moments after the red flags, and was deleted. Liam Lawson too said he’d lost out by the early end to the session.
Unusually, both Aston Martin drivers were among the frontrunners in the first segment and their upgraded car continued to show improved pace throughout the session. It brought more drama at the end of Q2, as first Stroll and then Alonso set a time that was good enough for the top ten shootout, which eliminated the Ferraris.
Below them was Kimi Antonelli, in his home race, who had been visibly on the limit, but not fast enough to make it into Q3.
Below is the full starting grid as it stands — unless any penalties are applied ahead of the race.
