The 2019 Super Formula SF19 to be added to Gran Turismo

A new single-seater is to be added to Gran Turismo shortly, and it’s the new racing machine from the 2019 Super Formula season.

The Japanese championship features quick, light and powerful machines – they have 2-litre turbocharged engines producing around 550bhp and a chassis that weighs less than a Formula 1 car.

With this Super Formula has become an important stepping stone for many drivers aiming for a top-level motor sport career, including Pierre Gasly and Stoffel Vandoorne.

And Gran Turismo in another free update will add the latest Super Formula car, the Dallara SF19. It was announced at the recent ‘Motor Sports Fan Appreciation Day’ at Suzuka that the update would be available this spring, and the release date of March 28 has been reported elsewhere.

As with the real Super Formula gamers will be able to race either a Honda or a Toyota engine, and those producing the update promise that the two engine sounds have been “accurately recreated”.

Also just like real life players will be able to power up their cars with a boost feature which apes the overtake system that actual drivers use.

In addition, Super Formula testing begins this week for the forthcoming season and today European Formula 3 graduate Alex Palou broke the Super Formula Suzuka lap record.
