This faithful recreation of the legendary 1970s competitor, raced regularly by Klaus Ludwig, is going under the hammer and ready to hit the track
This 1983 Porsche 911 Turbo has two claims to legendary status. It has been built faithfully to the 911’s 1970s GT racing Group 4 spec, the arena in which this famous car made much of its reputation.
Plus this very car has been raced regularly in recent years by sports car and touring car icon Klaus Ludwig. And it’s heading to auction at RM Sotheby’s Essen sale on April 11 and 12 , and is expected to bring in €160,000 to €200,000 (£137,000 to £171,000).
Updated: The Porsche 911 Turbo Group 4 sold for €178,250 at Essen.
The 911 was supreme in 1970s Group 4 competition, the GT class of the World Sportscar Championship, and this particular Porsche was constructed post hoc to 1978 Group 4 spec by noted Belgian Porsche specialist BSM Salewsky.
The starting point of the build was a tub from a 1983 Porsche 930 Turbo, and then the car was carefully assembled to the Group 4 specifications. It comes with current FIA papers.
This car since has been an active participant in high-profile historic races, and in recent years has been raced regularly by three-time Le Mans winner and five-time German touring car champion Ludwig.

The car participated in the Youngtimer Trophy from 2014 to 2017, the Oldtimer Grand Prix in 2015, 2016 and 2018, was driven in the Le Mans Classic in 2018 as well as the 24 Hour Classic Race at the Nürburgring the same year. It also won the Group 4 category at the 2017 Meilen Trophy.
It is consigned with a fresh engine and the car is ready for the track and up to date with current racing regulations. It is also road registered meaning it is eligible for a wide variety of historic motor sport events.
