Jean Alesi is parting ways with one of the most cherished pieces of his Formula 1 career, putting his 1992 Ferrari F92A up for sale.
Presented by Ferrari to Alesi after the end of the 1992 season, chassis No136 will be auctioned by Artcurial Motorcars on 27 January 2026 at The Peninsula Paris hotel, where it will headline an auction of 65 classic cars.
Following a complete overhaul of the car, the Frenchman completed two demonstration laps at Fiorano before placing the car in the gym of his villa near Avignon, where it has remained on display for nearly four decades.
Unraced since leaving Maranello, the F92A retains its original 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine – capable of producing 750 bhp – as well as its original mechanical and electronic components.
It represents the last generation of Ferrari grand prix cars built before the championship’s regulations began to tighten, making it a rare example of early 1990s F1 engineering.
“This Ferrari F92A represents a part of my life, a symbol of my passion for Ferrari and of an era when everything was about going fast,” said Alesi, a one-time grand prix winner and the current president of Circuit Paul Ricard.

“I hope that, in the hands of a true enthusiast, it will return to the track. In any case, it will always be welcome at Circuit Paul Ricard — which means I might see it again, this time in full action!”
Matthieu Lamoure, president of Artcurial Motorcars, added: “Selling Jean Alesi’s Ferrari F92A is telling a page of legend.
“It represents the meeting of history, mechanical nobility, pure authenticity, and an extraordinary provenance. This car embodies the very soul of Formula 1 in its rawest form, and the unbreakable bond between a driver and the Cavallino Rampante.”
Despite its looks and the incredibly sounding V12 engine, the F92A was one of the most disappointing Ferrari Formula 1 cars of its era.
Burdened by its complex and ultimately flawed ‘double floor’ aerodynamic concept, it proved uncompetitive throughout the 1992 season.
Alesi and team-mate Ivan Capelli struggled to match the pace of their rivals, with Ferrari finishing a distant fourth in the constructors’ championship.
The car never came close to challenging the dominant Williams and was often outperformed by midfield teams, making it a symbol of the Scuderia’s struggles in the early 1990s.
With the Jean-Claude Migeot-designed F92A, Alesi finished seventh in the standings in 1991 with 18 points.
