Description
Jaguar XJR9 – Le Mans 1988 winner
Strictly limited to 10 only, automotive artist Andrew Hill’s print captures the XJR9 on its way to victory at the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace, they were finally able to bring the Tom Walkinshaw Silk Cut Jaguar home to victory in the first win for Jaguar since 1957.
During the race the Jaguar had suffered with gearbox problems, with Lammers having to hold the car in 4th gear to prevent damaging the gearbox. As a result the Porsche 962C of Bell, Stuck, Ludwig came very close to winning but with Ludwig making a rare error of judgement by running out of fuel on the track and losing valuable time getting back to the pits, the Jaguar was able to end Porsche’s 7 year reign at Le Mans.
