Description
It is a well documented fact that Ayrton Senna was very protective of his gloves, call it a superstition or a religious belief, he rarely let anyone else touch his gloves and often used the same pair race after race.
In June 2015, Bob Illman – McLaren (Financial Director), was asked by Michael Hewett about a photograph of Ayrton holding his hand up, the glove still gripped to the steering wheel, Bob passed the following information to Michael Hewett, who shot this photograph of Ayrton in Monaco 1990 after qualifying, having just beaten Alain Prost to pole by a staggering 1.5 seconds.
Mike Negline, McLaren Team Travel and Logistics Manager, May 2011:
“In the photograph Ayrton is holding up his left hand, leaving the glove gripped around the steering wheel – his left hand was only used to steer (and adjust the brake balance) – his right hand often off the wheel to change gear, and at Monaco more pressure on the left than usual due to the tight circuit, his hand has blistered. Ayrton did not let anyone touch his gloves. He was drying his gloves one day and mistakenly put them on inside out, he found they were much better, as the seams were on the outside and it improved the feel through the steering wheel.”
This exclusive photographic print, hand signed by Michael Hewett is available as a rolled print for worldwide delivery.
