Description

Ayrton Senna signed, race-used Stand 21 gloves, presented framed with a correct period race-used steering wheel.

It is a well-documented fact that Ayrton Senna was very protective of his gloves, call it superstition or a religious belief, he rarely let anyone else touch his gloves and often used the same pair race after race.

Race-used gloves rarely come up for sale, particularly signed, so this is a rare opportunity to own a pair used by Ayrton during the 1986 Formula 1 season.

Ayrton was signed to Team Lotus, which featured the iconic black and gold John Player Special sponsorship on the Lotus 98T, driven to two victories in the season by Senna. His natural choice would have been a pair of blue Stand 21 gloves, but we have it on good authority that the sponsor dictated a black pair, which Stand 21 would supply to Ayrton and were used occasionally during the season.

These gloves have solid provenance, having come from a Portuguese friend of Ayrton, are hand-signed on the palm of one glove (the inside of the glove also has Ayrton’s name marked), and will come with a full Certificate of Authenticity.
