Welcome to another Motor Sport audio podcast. This month Christian Horner very kindly gave us an hour of his time (something that’s almost unheard of for a team principal in the middle of the Formula 1 season!) and we made the trip up to Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes.

The journey wasn’t without dramas… Myself, the editor Damien Smith and all the recording equipment set off from head office in Chelsea in plenty of time in his trusty BMW. However, within a mile of traffic the car was hot, very, very hot in fact and it soon came to a grinding halt. After a brief panicked phone call to my brother Will, I deserted the editor at Shepherd’s Bush and ran to my brother’s car (a surprisingly brilliant Ford Mondeo ST220) that he very kindly lent me.

So, if you’re wondering why Damien doesn’t say too much in the podcast, it’s because he was on a tow truck – with his car. The recording thankfully went according to plan and I hope you enjoy what Christian has to say.
Thank you for the car Will, and thank you Christian.

Excellent, excellent, excellent.
An impressive individual is Mr Horner.
Thanks all from a very noisy South Africa.
Thanks Garry, glad you enjoyed it.
You’re right, he’s one of the good guys and a true enthusiast as well as a thoroughly modern and capable team boss.
I suspect the population of England may be “temporarily unavailable” for the duration of this afternoon’s encounter with Slovenia. Just in case you wanted to contact anybody over here.
Next podcast in July.

A great podcast, kept me going through a boring work day, in between Football matches.
This one kept it all recent.. It’s too bad it happened just before the new rules & updates for next year. Will we get a Motorsport blog post on those? I feel like at least the introduction of the 107% rule and what it means to the small teams is worth a discussion about…
Anyways, thank you very much! All the best to Christian, even if I am a Ferrari man myself!

Great podcast…. usually we hear from ex-drivers or team bosses that are no longer on top…. rare we get a team boss of a team that is at the top end currently…. great!
How refreshing to hear an in depth, informative interview rather than the usual 5 minute sound bite. And Christian Horner really is a fascinating subject; witty, informed, open and a real motor sport fan.
We don’t do sound bites……………………we like to think we are at the more serious end of the market with a monthly magazine that has some appeal to those who appreciate a little depth……………….well, that’s what we like to think.
Anyway, yes, thanks all for your feedback. Quite rare to have a lady joining in – all good news.
New rules? Yes, we will take a look at those once we know about tyre supplier, KERS and all the other detail.
Life is full of surprises. England won a match yesterday in South Africa.

Rob congratulations on a great podcast very open approach from Mr Horner, don’t think you’d have got that from Ron Dennis when he ran McLaren although would be very interested to hear his views now that he is no longer shackled by such responsibility. Senna and Mansell? That would have been interesting. Congratulations to England on going through even though they scored one less goal than Australia in the group matches……
I would love to hear a podcast with Ron Dennis.
I admire what he has done with McLaren since he took them over in 1980.
Haven’t listened to the latest podcast yet, and will do it over the wet weekend here in Melbourne, Australia.
Still reading the July issue of the mag which just turned up here in my mail.
Is there a gentleman’s agreement that the banning of team orders shall be lifted if a team considers that driver A can win the title and not driver B? If so, when is that decision by the team accepted, and what if a team arranges by ‘order’ a swap of position, and it is protested by a competitor? I reckon we have a ‘can of worms’ here.
i agree with Peter G. I would love to here Ron Dennis on a podcast. Perhaps later in the day with as nice chardy to loosen him up.

Nice to hear someone who has enthusiasm and talks in a way that shows that he has his feet on the ground even though he has every reason to believe his own hype. Hope that Red Bull continues to do well this season.
what a pleasure it was to listen to this podcast. Conducted in such an easy style I thought it was very close to the Formula 1 forum after the race. I am so glad that I subscribe to the Magazine. Thank you

Yet another enjoyable podcast with yet another fascinating, articulate and bright member of the F1 establishment.
Keep up the great work, gentlemen.
What else can be said? These podcasts are extremely good. Patrick Head last month, Christian Horner this month – great and very insightful. It’s good that people open up more in this format than in normal interviews. Not sure Ron Dennis would open up, though! I bet Gordon Murray would have some interesting comments on the status of current F1.
Happened onto your podcasts a couple of months ago.Great, look forward to each one.
I have downloaded the telecast, but, must listen it it next week, on my plane trip to Thailand.
Suggestion for next podcast….. Mark Webber
Listen back to Christian Horner on the podcast and you wonder what is really going on at RBR. Mr Horner needs to get a firm grip on the situation after Silverstone and I am sure he will. Will be intriguing to see how the wounds are healed. And, yes, Webber would be a great podcast guest, especially as he lives in England and is therefore more likely than some to have an hour to spare at some point. We can only ask.

I’ve just listened to this again following the furore over the team orders at Hockenheim and while I am awaiting the next podcast.
It wasn’t until the second listening that I caught Christian Horner the most used term in F1. The ‘for sure’ was to be expected as he previously a driver?
Thank you again for another quality podcast.
