How to watch the 2025 Indy 500: UK live stream, TV schedule and start time
The self-proclaimed 'greatest spectacle in racing' returns: full details on how to watch the 2025 Indy 500, plus live stream, TV schedule, and highlights
Who will win this year's 'greatest spectacle in racing'?
IndyCar
The Indianapolis 500 truly is a race like no other.
The largest single-day sporting event in the world with over 400,000 people in attendance, avid fans see 33 IndyCar drivers furiously fight it out over 200 laps, with speeds touching 240mph at times.
If you don’t want to make the trip to the American Midwest though, you can get all the details on how to watch it all from the comfort of your own home below on the Sky F1, Action and Mix channels.
This means you needn’t worry about any F1 clashes either: Indy 500 coverage will be shared across the Sky Sports channels on the same day as the Emilia Romagna GP on Sunday May 18 and the Monaco GP on Sunday May 25.
Considered one of the toughest events to win in top-level motor sport, the 500 forms part of the racing’s ‘Triple Crown’ along with the Le Mans 24 Hours and Monaco Grand Prix.
Palou has won four of the first five IndyCar races this season
This year’s event constitutes the sixth round of the IndyCar season, with one question looming: can anyone beat Alex Palou?
The Spaniard has been in eviscerating form in 2025, winning four of IndyCar’s five races so far – and finishing second in the other.
‘The Brickyard’ is an almost completely different ballgame to the rest of the typical IndyCar season though. Faster, longer and with more cars than any other race, going for glory comes with huge risks.
Furthermore, with their machines balanced on a knife edge at such high speeds, just the slightest wrong set-up change can ruin a driver’s year, sending them from being a front-runner to being knocked out in ‘Bump Day’ (officially known as ‘Last Chance’ qualifying).
Josef Newgarden has won the last two Indy 500s – can he become the first ever to make it a consecutive hat-trick? His Penske team-mate and last year’s pole man Scott McLaughlin will be looking to fight at the front again, as will Pato O’Ward, who lost out in a thrilling last-lap battle with Newgarden in 2024.
Also grabbing big headlines will be NASCAR star Kyle Larson, who once more will be attempting ‘The Double’ by running the 500 and stock car racing’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
It all means there’ll be plenty of captivating story lines to follow in addition to the thrilling racing drama – read how to watch it below.

Indy 500 circuit details and weather forecast
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of racing’s most famous circuits, having hosted the Indianapolis 500 since 1911 (with no races between 1942 – 1945 due to WWII).
‘The Brickyard’ runs to 2.5 miles. Despite only having four turns, each one has a different radius, making it a huge challenge for drivers as they enter them at over 220mph.
Eddie Cheever holds the record for the circuit’s fastest racing lap at 236.103mph during the 1996 Indy 500. That same year, Arie Luyendyk set the fastest ever qualifying lap at 237.498mph.
Racing at Indy is always extremely close
IndyCar
All drivers use the same Dallara DW12 chassis, meaning the competition is usually incredibly close. Alex Palou snatched the second-closest pole position in Indy 500 history two years ago, his 234.217mph four-lap qualifying run just 0.006mph ahead of Rinus Veekay.
Josef Newgarden won last year’s race by 0.3sec from Pato O’Ward, with 1.5sec covering the top five cars.
Though some of the early practice sessions may suffer some delays due to wet weather, the current forecast states that rain will not affect either the main qualifying days or the race itself.
