Early Trojan economics

The Trojan Owners Club has dug up that famous 1924 advertisement “Can You Afford To Walk?”, which detailed the cost of walking 200 miles compared to that of driving the same distance in a solid-tyred Trojan. Shoe repairs, depreciation of shoes and the cost of two pairs of socks is related to petrol at 1/6 a gallon, oil at less than 8/– a gallon, and tyres, which lasted for 15,000 miles, at £7.10s each. Even depreciation of the Trojan priced at £157.10s was accounted for, and tax and insurance included, but the Trojan won by the sum of 3/11 (say 20P).
