Historical series - No 19 and No 20

Two more of those welcome Rolls-Royce historical studies put out by the R-R Heritage Trust and the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation are to hand, for prices which make all other books of similar research value seem astronomically expensive. These little but informative volumes are available for £6.20 and £9.00, respectively, to non-members of the publishing organisations. The first, Historical Series No 19, is about Hives’ Turbulent Barons, ie those engineers who worked under Sir Henry Royce and Lord Hives to achieve perfection in the motor car and aeroengine fields. Its 179 pages are well illustrated and full of marvellous reminiscences. The subsequent release in the series, No 20, is also by Alec Harvey-Bailey, this one with Dave Piggott as co author. It’s titled The Merlin 100 – Series The Ultimate Military Development, and is packed with drawings, tables, statistics and even Tony Dunwell’s rare explanatory pictures of Merlin engine problems, together with power-increase colour-charts – an engineer’s delight! Order from Richard Haigh, RollsRoyce PLC, PO Box 31, Derby DE24 8BJ, or from The Hunt House, Paulerspury, Northamptonshire.
