Leefe Robinson memorial

Sir,

In his item on the Wankel engine Mr Boddy refers to the memorial at Cuffley which he visited in the NSU. (I was given a very impressive spin around Mallory Park in one.)

The memorial is to Leefe Robinson and was paid for by readers of the Daily Express. The airship downed by Leefe Robinson was not a Zeppelin but a Schutte-Lanz which had a wooden airframe. It was SL11, and there is a model of it in the Cuffley Leisure Centre. The crew are buried in the German military cemetery in Staffordshire. As a matter of interest Leefe Robinson’s grave in Stanmore, Middlesex, wrongly describes his victim as L21.
